The Great Mushroom

One of three anchor points connecting the Material Plane to the Feywild and Shadowfell, located in the western swamplands. A vast, ancient fungal structure ringed by smaller kin.

The Fey Eladrin revealed this location when showing the party the portal network beneath the Great Tree. The scrying pool displayed towering fungal giants, vibrant and enormous, with wetlands dotted with pools.

The Shadar-kai spirit Trogeth mentioned the Mushroom as one of two other portal sites attempted before the Great Tree - both abandoned due to their dangers.

Arrival: The party was violently expelled into a vibrant field of flowers near the Mushroom after Trogeth's journal interfered with their transit through the Feywild. They fought pixies and Displacer Beasts, then were guided by friendly pixies toward the Mushroom.

The Fairy Ring: En route, the party stumbled into a fairy ring presided over by El, a pixie host. They were shrunk to pixie scale and drawn into a feast, a dance, and a game of Feywild etiquette before being released — still small, which El noted they would want for what lay ahead.

The Shadow Attack: Upon reaching the Great Mushroom, the party found the smallest mushroom in the cluster covered in necrotic tissue — shadow injector creatures were driving Shadowfell corruption into it, the same rot seen on the Great Tree. The party ambushed and destroyed the creatures and the shadow entity they spawned. The mushroom healed where each creature fell, and pixies emerged from the cap to cheer.

The Portal Room: The interior contains a portal room identical in architecture to the one beneath the Great Tree. Pixies within adjusted the destination and aligned the passage home. Kouzlo, now understanding Trogeth's journal well enough to suppress its interference, led the party through cleanly. The Great Tree waited on the other side.
