Anu, the Pyramid Cat

A long black cat with amber eyes who rested for centuries at the deepest known level of the Sunken Pyramid, in a chamber surrounded by six clay cat statues posed in eternal stillness. The cat speaks in all languages at once.

When the party descended into his chamber, his first word was a simple question: "Visitors?"

His Name and Nature: Anu was a priest-companion to King Ramkheret in life. He served the Lord of the Eternal Sands and was meant to be buried with the king, carrying the Scales of Ma'at into the afterlife alongside him. Auntie Dirtha denied him that rest; she fixed him in his current form and posted him as a sentry, watching the chambers of the pyramid for the centuries it took for someone to come and undo her work.

Beneath Helena's fingers his fur lays soft over something that is neither flesh nor stone — taxidermy and animation, both.

At the Battle: Anu confirmed, the moment Kouzlo had spoken the first two syllables of Dirtha's true name, that the trials of the pyramid had been built around their concealment — and that the final syllable lay within the heart of the king. Dirtha struck him with a lightning bolt for the telling. He was healed and stood beside the party for the rest of the expedition, helping work the sarcophagus that had been intended for him and, in his small way, contributing to the hag's undoing.

After the Pyramid: With the pyramid liquefying around them, Helena scooped Anu up and carried him out. He allowed it with the resigned air of a cat who had been waiting for the right person to find him for a very long time. He now travels with the party.
