Trogeth
A Shadar-kai necromancer, now a spectral presence bound within his own journal. The book was recovered from beneath the Great Tree after the party disrupted the Shadowfell incursion.
The journal resisted inspection with layered arcane locks woven directly into its binding. Through riddles, dispelling magic, and no small measure of risk, the party drew forth Trogeth's spirit - gaunt, cold, and speaking not with joy or anger, but with longing.
Revelations:
- The Shadar-kai are cursed to the Shadowfell, seeking escape above all else
- The Raven Queen was once a Fey queen who ascended, was condemned, and cast from memory
- She now rules the Fortress of Memories, desperate to be remembered
- Two prior portal attempts were made at the Great Mushroom and Great Pine - both abandoned
- The Cult of Whispering Stars unknowingly aids the Shadar-kai by thinning the planar veil
When asked what would succeed where the Shadar-kai failed, Trogeth answered: "Thin the veil further."
The journal demanded three tests - the arm (riddles), strength (combat against summoned nightmares), and heart (the choice to save fallen companions). The party passed all three, earning two scrolls of Revivify that persist only as potential - limited, fragile, finite.
Kouzlo now carries the journal and successfully suppressed Trogeth's interference during transit to the Feywild through sheer arcane will.
