Brakam's Missing Settlers
The pirate bodies cocooned in the head of the Gestalt's biomass were a colonist expedition from Brakam, the coastal nation across the strait — exiles looking for a place to put down on this side of the water. They found the monastery in the mountains before they found anything else, tried to barter with the monks who remained, and never left. The bartered goods are now in the party's hands: the Deck of Illusions, the Robe of Useful Items, the Thayan Spell Tattoo.
This expedition went missing at least a generation ago. There may still be records of it in Brakam. The half-orc sailor whose tattoo Werrin now wears carried the ink of the Red Wizards of Thay; how a Brakamite settler came by Thayan work is its own question.
Open questions:
- How many expeditions has Brakam sent west, and how many of them are unaccounted for?
- Is the Wildermarch on any Brakamite map at all, or is this a frontier they consider lost?
- The Thayan tattoo work — was it bought, traded, stolen, or carried by someone the Red Wizards would still like to find?
Brakam itself has been a quiet presence in the party's growing awareness of the wider world. This is the first time a piece of it has come home with them.
