Silas

A human cultist captured during the party's raid on the Pink Swamps crystal operation. He sits in the brig of the beached ship at N.O.D.E. camp.

Silas speaks with the calm conviction of someone who has fully surrendered to a purpose larger than himself. His mantra: everything is where it is meant to be. He views all cultists — himself included — as disposable vessels, making threats of death meaningless. What finally opened him up was the promise of spreading the cult's message.

The Aboleth's Puppet: Silas is permanently charmed by an Aboleth — a magical bond unlike anything Helena has encountered. When startled or probed, his eyes flare vivid red. When Helena pushed past surface thoughts into deeper memories, the Aboleth spoke through Silas directly, its voice rumbling with amusement: "You have been wise to protect yourself. But how long can these protections last?"

Hidden Memories: Helena's deeper reading uncovered flashes of a past Silas can no longer access: a childhood, a family, a major city, manual labor. Then — arriving by boat at the site where N.O.D.E. camp now stands, when the land was empty, carrying tools alongside other workers. Sawing through a tree. Then nothing. The underlying emotion was pure, abject fear. Foreman Smith confirmed that previous expeditions predating N.O.D.E. had attempted to settle here and vanished without explanation. Silas may be one of those original settlers, claimed by the Aboleth long before the current expedition arrived.

Revelations: Through Silas, the party learned:

• The cult symbol's five eyes each represent a different entity, only one of which is an Aboleth — the others are something else entirely
• The elder Aboleth is the central eye, "older than all," and saw "everything be made"
• The cult calls its goal the unification
• The crystals come from a fallen star, and that star came from the Aboleth's home
• The cult feeds crystals different inputs (lives, magic) to coax out different abilities
• Multiple Aboleths exist — "we are many" — and the party has already encountered and slain some
• The subterranean fortress houses the bulk of cult forces making final preparations
• The Aboleth does not normally dwell in the fortress but can reach it via the adjacent waterway
